Alice and Steve will return for another season at Disney+.

Created and written by Sophie Goodhart, the Canneseries winner — available on Hulu in the U.S. — will be back following a successful first installment on the platform, prompting acclaim and heated online discourse over the age-gap relationship depicted in the show.

In season one, Alice (Nicola Walker) is devastated when her best friend Steve (Jemaine Clement) starts dating her 26-year-old daughter Izzy. She’s going to lose her best friend and her daughter in one fell swoop. Alice tries everything she can to end the relationship. Unfortunately for her, Steve’s more than ready for the attack, and what begins as a perfect friendship, devolves into an all-out feud.

“I phoned my agent and went, ‘Please, please, I want to do this,’” Walker told The Hollywood Reporter on set during the making of season one. “It’s a very unusual tone. We keep talking about that. And when you get it, it feels amazing. So, I think what Sophie’s done is written something very, very, very funny, but then it can go really sad, and it’s sort of brutally honest at times.”

Goodhart is “thrilled” that Alice and Steve has been given a second season. “No one will be prepared for what happens next, especially not Alice and Steve,” she said.

Petra Fried, joint managing director at Clerkenwell Films, added: “We absolutely love Alice and Steve, both the show and, of course, the two characters at the heart of Sophie’s brilliantly messy, funny and fearless exploration of friendship and love. We’re thrilled to be bringing it back for a second season and can’t wait for audiences to see what Sophie has in store for our favourite frenemies.”

The series is executive produced by Petra Fried, Sophie Gardiner and Wim de Greef with co-executive producer Rachael Stephenson for Clerkenwell Films, part of BBC Studios, and was commissioned by Lee Mason, vp of scripted, Disney+, EMEA.
