Amazon said this week that it received hundreds of millions of dollars in refunds from President Trump’s tariffs and pledged to return some of the profits to its customers.

This follows a Supreme Court decision earlier this year that many of the Trump administration’s tariffs were illegal, prompting the U.S. government to start a process to refund billions of dollars in import taxes to affected companies.

Brian Olsavsky, the chief financial officer of Amazon.com, Inc., said during a Thursday earnings call that the company is “participating in the tariff refund process” and received an amount of $600 million in its second financial quarter.

Olsavsky noted that the company worked on the front end to avoid tariff costs and noted that Amazon is “not the importer of record for the large majority of items sold in our store.”

“In cases where we did see an increase in cost due to tariffs, we largely absorbed these costs rather than pass them on to customers,” he said on the call.

The Amazon executive said the company has “identified a limited set of circumstances” in which customers were impacted by these hiked costs.

“When we receive those refunds, we will proactively contact affected customers and automatically issue refunds to them,” Olsavsky said.

The Supreme Court’s 6-3 ruling in February struck down the bulk of Trump’s tariffs, which have become a cornerstone of his administration’s economic bargaining strategy. The high court’s decision did not specify how the refund process should work, leaving this decision up to the lower courts.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection began processing refund claims from businesses worth around a claimed total of $166 billion following this ruling. Other major companies that sought refund payouts include Ford, General Motors, Apple, Walmart and UPS.

In an interview with CNBC’s “Squawk Box” in April, Trump said he would “remember” the U.S. companies that did not file for tariff refunds.

“If they don’t do that, I will remember them, I’ll tell you that,” Trump said at the time. “Because I’m looking to make this country strong. Supreme Court could have helped us.”
