Crocket fired a shot at White, after White fired off one of his own missives earlier today, Aug. 19.
If you’re just entering the chat, it might seem that Crockett and White are currently arguing over who’s been the most politically vocal through their career, but the tiff started when Crockett released “Satanic doo-wop” duo Twin Temple as his opening act for the Age of the Ram tour. The duo, husband and wife team Alexandra James and Zachary James, claimed they were fired because of their use of satanic imagery; although song titles like “I Am a Witch,” and “Satanic Orgy,” would probably clue people in without ever needing to see their production design.
“To us, Satan is a metaphor for exploring all of these things in our art. It’s the images that have always resonated with us,” Alexandra told Rolling Stone. “And Satan’s the original outlaw, right? He’s a rebel angel. He’s the one who questioned authority, fought for himself, refused to bow down or conform, and was like non serviam. That was a metaphor that resonated very strongly with me.”
White offered the group an opening slot on his tour supporting Frozen Charlotte. But when Crockett accused Twin Temple of making the controversy up and dragging him “by a rope real good,” he also said he lost “respect” for White. White — in effortless fashion — hit back by posting the full lyrics to the Shawn Brown’s John Wayne Parody “Rappin’ Duke.”
Crockett then hit back against White on Wednesday with a callout the size of a CVS receipt, where he quoted rapper Jay-Z and called White “Mr. Suzy Cream Puff,” which appears to have been taken down at press time.
“I don’t care what you said in you’re [sp] songs. I’m talking about your public statements back when it was on the line in 2003. Look up my first record A Stolen Jewel,” Crockett wrote in the since-deleted post. “I been about it. Lemme guess, you got Che Guevara and Malcolm X on your shelf, maybe even Fred Hampton, but at the end of the day you get in the Lamborghini and put your kids in private school.”
