New Classics Pictures New Classics Pictures’ crime procedural drama “Traces of Justice” took the top spot at the mainland China box office during the Oct. 2–4 weekend, grossing RMB208.9 million ($31.2 million) over the three-day frame, according to data from Artisan Gateway.
Following its Oct. 1 release to launch the Golden Week holiday corridor, the feature, also known as “Sherlock of China,” has amassed $41.8 million. Directed by Chen Sicheng (“Detective Chinatown”) and co-written with Ji Zhang, the production stars Zhang Yi alongside Li Ma, Li Xuejian, Karry Wang, Fan Chengcheng, and Chen Feiyu. Spanning multiple decades, the period procedural follows a legendary detective who, alongside his dedicated team, cracks complex criminal cases while chronicling the evolving apparatus of China’s public security forces.
