China’s Commerce Ministry announced a new slate of sanctions against the United States and some of its firms on Wednesday in response to a recent moves by two U.S. agencies that targeted China, over a month before Chinese President Xi Jinping is scheduled to visit President Trump.

In the latest move by China, it would ban domestic organizations and individuals from doing business with seven American entities. The Commerce Ministry said the sanctions were announced because of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) ban on imports of drones and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) adding goods from 43 Chinese companies to the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act that is meant to ban imports of goods made using forced labor.

In response to the DHS tariffs of 12.5 percent, Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Lin Jian said during a daily briefing that “tariff wars and trade wars do not serve any parties’ interests.”

The “measures seriously violate the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and severely damage China’s legitimate rights and interests. China has no choice but to take necessary countermeasures in response,” the ministry said in a statement, according to The Associated Press.

The sanctions targeted companies like Applied DNA Sciences, Inc., the nongovernmental group Human Rights in China and testing and certification firm Compliance Testing LLC.

In July, the FCC additionally banned foreign-produced power inverters and humanoid robots under “national security” concerns, but both products are made primarily in China.

China’s State Administration for Market Regulation announced at the same time that U.S. firms that conduct factory inspections on behalf of Chinese entities for the China Compulsory Certification (CCC) can no longer perform these inspections or provide these certifications.

A CCC is for the standardization of product quality and safety, operating similarly to European Union certification systems.

The country added it would also enforce stricter review on drones, components for the product and related technology that would be heading to the United States.
