Cynthia Nixon‘s wife Christine Marinoni is reportedly among the latest additions to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani‘s administration.

Marinoni has been hired as the chief of mass engagement at the Family and Community Empowerment office at the Department of Education, according to The New York Post.

The gig, the Post says, is a way of rewarding Nixon for endorsing him during last year’s mayoral primary, though Nixon denied to the Post that her wife was a political hire.

Marinoni, who the Post reported will be making $203,500 a year in her new role, previously worked as part of former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s administration.

Nixon, who wed Marinoni in 2012, ran for governor in 2018, challenging then-governor Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary.

Nixon has been an outspoken Mamdani supporter, endorsing him in the Democratic primary last year and writing on Instagram after he won the 2025 New York City mayoral race, “I love this young man so so much! He is a miracle of nature and I would follow him to the ends of the earth (and I almost have!)”

Marinoni helped found the Alliance for Quality Education in New York, meeting Nixon through the latter’s work with the organization.

“Christine is a longtime public servant, community organizer and education advocate—precisely the experience and commitment our public schools need in leadership,” a DOE spokesperson told the Post in a statement.

Still, a City Hall source complained about the hire to the Post, saying, “It’s painfully fitting that inside Tweed Courthouse, a DSA machine reminiscent of Tammany Hall is handing taxpayer-funded jobs to the well-connected spouses of multimillionaire celebrities.”

Nixon started dating Marinoni in 2002 after previously only dating men, she told The Hollywood Reporter in 2020, where she reflected on her coming out journey.

“I had always dated men. I had a boyfriend for 15 years. I remember on Sex and the City, we had an episode about bisexuality and “does bisexuality exist.” They quizzed us all, and I was like, “Totally.” The idea of being attracted to a woman or falling in love with a woman or having sex with a woman always seemed completely within the realm of possibility — it just had never happened to me,” she said.

She and Marinoni went public with their relationship in 2004.

Celebrating their 14-year wedding anniversary over Memorial Day Weekend earlier this year, Nixon wrote on Instagram in part, “Falling in love with Christine was the best thing I ever did (next to having our children).”

The New York City Department of Education has not yet responded to THR‘s request for comment.
