A former Trump health official on Tuesday slammed Dr. Anthony Fauci over his recently-released journal entries.
“I’d like to see honesty and transparency and I’d like Tony to come clean with all the things that he’s really been caught in contradictions,” Dr. Brett Giroir, a former assistant secretary for health at the Department of Health and Human Services, told NewsNation’s Blake Burman on “The Hill,” discussing upcoming congressional testimony from Fauci.
“And yes, I’m shocked by his unabashed narcissism, you know, worrying about his fame when all of us were worrying about the 1,000 or 2,000 people dying the next day. It’s really kind of sickening,” he added, referencing Fauci’s diary entries. “But, you know, I don’t think we need to be that salacious. I want to get down to the issues.”
Fauci is set for a challenging Senate hearing Wednesday, only a few days after Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) released over 1,000 pages of Fauci’s diary entries from the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Last weekend, the Kentucky Republican released more than 1,000 pages of private diary entries from Fauci. He claimed that the entries prove Fauci discussed the virus’s origins differently in public than how he did in private.
Fauci was one of the most famous U.S. government officials amid the pandemic, as he spoke with reporters in the White House briefing room and made numerous appearances on TV. The health official referenced the media appearances on a daily basis in his diary, and noted news articles about him, such as a “very flattering” Washington Post article from spring 2020.
“The situation with my national and international fame is explosive and really unimaginable. It is not hyperbole to say that today I am the most famous and talked about person in the country and one of the most recognizable person in the world,” he wrote on May 21, 2020.
