Rock is dead. Long live rock! In the 75 years since the first rock & roll song was cut to tape in a Memphis studio, this genre’s grave has been danced on more times than the floor at Berghain. Guys like Gene Simmons never get tired of saying rock is a thing of the past, but a funny thing keeps happening: Every time you count it out, rock finds a way to come right back in. In fact, we’d argue that we’re living through a particularly exciting time for rock music right now — so we put together this list to celebrate all of the reasons why that is. You’ll find the incredible live acts we booked for this year’s Rolling Stone Rock Tour, presented by Miller High Life, plus even more sounds, scenes, and trends from around the world. Read on (or get to a gig near you), and you just might find your favorite new band.
