How to Watch ‘Off Campus,’ the Steamy College Soap That’s Being Compared to ‘Heated Rivalry’

Hockey is heating up the small screen once again with the new Prime Video series, Off Campus.

Based on the bestselling book series from author Elle Kennedy, the college drama follows the introverted singer-songwriter Hannah Wells, who agrees to a fake relationship with all-star hockey captain Garrett Graham, in an attempt to make another guy jealous. The popular Garrett agrees to the deal in exchange for having Hannah tutor him, so he won’t fail his exams and get kicked off the Briar University collegiate team.

But as a series description teases, what starts off as a mutually beneficial show-mance soon turns into something more, as a “sexy and fun ‘opposites attract’ romance” quickly develops between the two.

Off Campus Season 1: Episodes, Spoilers

The first season of Off Campus features eight episodes, with episode ranging from 46 to 56 minutes in length.

As a show description teases, ” Off Campus follows an elite ice hockey team, and the women in their lives, as they grapple with love, heartbreak, and self-discovery—forging deep friendships and enduring bonds while navigating the complexities that come with transitioning into adulthood.”

Season 1 follows Hannah, played by Ella Bright (The Crown, Malory Towers) and Briar University’s all-star hockey hunk, Garrett, played by Belmont Cameli (Until Dawn, Saved by the Bell). Other cast members include Mika Abdalla (Snack Shack, Sex Appeal), Antonio Cipriano (Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, National Treasure: Edge of History), Jalen Thomas Brooks (The Pitt, Thanksgiving), Josh Heuston (Dune: Prophecy, Heartbreak High) and Stephen Kalyn (Gen V, Motorheads).

While Off Campus is based on Elle Kennedy’s book series of the same name, the first season of the show pulls primarily from the first book in the series, titled The Deal.

Fans have compared Off Campus to the breakout HBO hit Heated Rivalry, thanks to its steamy scenes and hockey-inspired storyline (not to mention the fact that both shows were based on BookTok hits). Heated Rivalry of course, focused on a forbidden gay romance, and was set in the world of professional hockey, while Off Campus follows a heterosexual relationship in college. Critics have also described Off Campus as being “fluffier” in tone until the last few episodes reveal — half-spoiler — “sadder, uglier backstory-related developments.”
