After surviving Cape Verde in its first real test of the 2026 World Cup, Argentina will face Egypt in the Round of 16. Egypt knocked Australia out of the competition in a nerve-racking penalty shootout, winning its first-ever knockout-stage game at the World Cup.

Argentina and Egypt have never met in a World Cup game — the teams last met in a 2008 friendly in Cairo, which Argentina won 2-0. The winner will face either Colombia or Switzerland in the quarterfinals.
