Rep. Jeff Hurd (R-Colo.) was projected to win the GOP primary for his House seat in the 3rd Congressional District, according to Decision Desk HQ, despite President Trump flip-flopping on his endorsement earlier this year.

Trump withdrew his endorsement earlier this year, blasting Hurd over a “lack of support” for the president’s sweeping tariff agenda. He endorsed Hope Scheppelman, a former vice chair of the state GOP, but the president reversed course and endorsed Hurd just a month later as Scheppelman exited the race.

Hurd on Tuesday easily defeated backing far-right primary challenger Ron Hanks, who entered the race after Scheppelman withdrew.

Former U.S. Army officer Dwayne Romero is running against businessman Alex Kelloff in the Democratic contest for Hurd’s seat. But Hurd’s primary win puts him on a glidepath to the nomination in the seat considered a safe Republican seat, where Democrats haven’t won in more than a decade.
