Julio Peña, Nicole Wallace and Josh Heuston Isaac Morell; Pablo Curto; Aurore Marechal/Getty Images Julio Peña has joined the cast of Amazon MGM Studios‘ Throttled, an upcoming film based on the book from Lauren Ashers’ Dirty Air series.
The actor joins previously announced stars Nicole Wallace (the Culpa Mia trilogy) and Josh Heuston (Off Campus).
In the upcoming romance from Amazon MGM Studios, Peña will play Santi Alatorre, “the older brother of Maya Alatorre (portrayed by Wallace) and a driver on the racing circuit whose teammate and fiercest rival, Noah Slade (Heuston), falls into a forbidden romance with Maya.“

The trio shared a social media post to announce Peña‘s casting. In their video, Wallace and Heuston are seen talking privately, only for Peña to interrupt and squeeze in the middle of them.
“Welcome to the team,” Heuston says to Peña, only for Peña to shake his hand and respond, “Thanks! Just stay away from my sister.“ He then hugs Wallace while Heuston laughs it off saying, “You bet!“
Melissa Osborne (My Fault: London, My Oxford Year) will adapt the script and Nzingha Stewart (Daisy Jones & the Six) is set to direct. Max Handelman and Elizabeth Banks of Brownstone Productions are producing along with Ethea Entertainment’s Jennifer Gibgot and Andrew Panay, who recently produced The Last Sunrise, Prime’s film adaptation of Anna Todd‘s bestselling romance novel. Garrett Grant is also producing, with Alison Small of Brownstone Productions and Asher executive producing.
Asher‘s 2020 book Throttled is the first of four books in the Dirty Air sports romance series. The adaptation marks another addition to Amazon MGM‘s building library of book-to-screen adaptations, including Off Campus, Every Year After and The Love Hypothesis.
Peña is best known for his work in the Through My Window trilogy on Netflix, whose first installment logged 68 million views in its first two weeks. He recently wrapped the untitled Meta series based on A24’s Talk to Me. Last year he starred in The Captive, which premiered at TIFF and earned him a Goya Award nomination for best new actor. Peña also stars in the Money Heist Netflix spinoff Berlin.
