Two Supreme Court justices are set to deliver testimony on the high court’s annual budget request to lawmakers on Capitol Hill in two separate hearings next week.
Justices Elena Kagan and Amy Coney Barrett will appear before the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government on July 14, Chair Tom Cole (R-Okla.) announced on Tuesday.
The pair is also expected to testify before members of the Senate Appropriations Committee subcommittee that same afternoon.
The Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts is requesting $9.7 billion for its fiscal year 2027 discretionary budget, including $826.5 million in mandatory appropriations for judicial salaries and judicial retirement funds.
The request includes a $14.6 million boost for the Supreme Court Police for “protective activities” related to the justices’ homes and families.
The budget also asks Congress for $920.9 million to fund the deployment of frontline security officers at every federal courthouse across the country, citing the nationwide rise of threats against federal judges.
