The holidays are more than four months away, but the White House is already putting out a Christmastime call for volunteers.
Melania Trump kicked off the opening of the volunteer and performer application submission period for this year’s holiday season at the White House on Monday.
“Americans from every U.S. state and territory are invited to apply for the opportunity to assist with decorating or showcase their talents as a performer at the holiday open houses,” according to an announcement from the first lady’s press office.
Every year, hundreds of volunteers typically help to deck the halls and add some festive touches to the White House as part of its holiday décor. The White House hosts tens of thousands of visitors during the holiday season.
“Every detail” featured in last year’s theme, “Home is Where the Heart is,” was personally chosen by Melania Trump, White House officials said at the time.
Volunteers must be U.S. citizens and at least 18 years old to participate in the decorating that takes places during the week of Nov. 23. “All volunteer duties require physical activity, including heavy lifting, working on ladders, and standing for extended periods,” the application page noted.
Performers, which the White House described as “school bands, choirs, and holiday-themed entertainers,” will present during holiday open houses in December.
The deadline to apply to be a volunteer or performer is August 28. Two meals per day will be provided, but volunteers “are responsible for their individual travel, accommodations, and personal expenses.”
Selected applicants will be notified by Oct. 2, according to the White House.
