Laura Farneti/Courtesy L'Altrofilm Italian director Louis Nero’s Buddhist sci-fi drama “Milarepa,” starring Harvey Keitel and F. Murray Abraham, will open the 24th Boston International Film Festival that runs April 9–14.
Shot on the island of Sardinia amid ancient megalithic stone constructions and set in a near future post-apocalyptic world, the English-language film is inspired by the famous yogi, poet and Buddhist saint called Milarepa, who lived in the 11th century and on whose life Herman Hesse based the novel “Siddartha.”
