More Americans are identifying politics as the “greatest source of risk” for their everyday safety, according to a recent report.
The Lloyd’s Register Foundation World Risk Poll, conducted with Gallup, found that 10 percent of American respondents call politics the “greatest source of risk” for their everyday safety. In 2021 and 2023, 6 percent said the same, according to Gallup.
This finding means more Americans than any other population globally see politics as a threat to their personal safety.
In recent years, political violence has become an increasingly visible part of American life, with President Trump facing multiple assassination attempts during his 2024 campaign, the Jan. 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol riots and the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
A poll from last October found that nearly a third of Americans suggested some violence could be justified in order to get their country back on track.
Last week, Secretary of State Marco Rubio brought together officials from over 60 countries to raise alarm on what his department warned was a rise in far-left political violence across the world. Rubio pushed for an “international response” to the issue at the summit.
In the Lloyd’s Register Foundation report, 34 percent of American respondents said that “road-related accidents” are the “greatest source of risk” for their everyday safety. Nearly 20 percent said “crime and violence” and 5 percent said a “personal health condition” or “mental health” were the greatest daily sources of risk.
The Lloyd’s Register Foundation report took place throughout 2025, featuring 4,000 respondents worldwide, with the margin of sampling error stretching from plus or minus 2.2 percentage points and plus or minus 5.5 percentage points on the national level.
