Political commentator Bill O’Reilly said Wednesday that the ‘Make America Great Again’ (MAGA) movement views President Trump as a “bulwark” against the leftist sect of the Democratic Party.
“The MAGA Trump people feel that what the president is fighting against is infinitely worse than what he’s doing in his financial portfolio. It’s as simple as that,” O’Reilly said in an appearance on NewsNation’s “Cuomo.”
The U.S. Office of Government Ethics on Tuesday released Trump’s financial disclosure for last year, which revealed the president brought in more than $2 billion via various channels, including more than $1 billion from crypto and meme coin ventures.
“They see him as the bulwark against the socialist, communist [Democrats] whatever you want to call them,” O’Reilly told host Chris Cuomo, referring to the president’s supporters.
In recent weeks, the president has gone after the growing democratic socialist movement in the country, labeling such candidates as “communists.”
In the span of two weeks, democratic socialists Darializa Avila Chevalier and Melat Kiros have defeated incumbent Democrats in House primaries in Colorado and New York City, respectively.
Meanwhile, democratic socialist Claire Valdez secured the Democratic nomination for the open seat in New York’s 7th Congressional District, and progressive candidate Brad Lander defeated incumbent Rep. Dan Goldman (D) in the Democratic primary in the Empire State’s 10th Congressional District.
All three victorious candidates in Gotham had the support of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D), whom Trump has frequently called a “communist” while saying he likes the mayor personally.
“America the Beautiful will NEVER be a Communist Country!!!” Trump wrote on Truth Social last week, after the primaries in New York.
The aforementioned House candidates centered their campaigns on populist left-wing issues, calling for Medicare for All and the abolishment of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. They also sharply criticized Israel’s actions in its war against Hamas in Gaza.
O’Reilly also noted that the president’s supporters “don’t like” his financial dealings since he returned to office. But given their broad support for his moves on immigration enforcement and the war in Iran, the former Fox News host believes they can tolerate Trump amassing wealth during his second term.
“He’s cleaning up a lot of things that we want cleaned up,” he said. “So, it’s a balance.”
