MacFarlane, who was CBS News’ Justice correspondent and left the company nine days ago, announced Monday that he was joining MeidasTouch Network, a digital media company which bills itself as doing “pro-democracy” journalism and has been a fierce critic of President Donald Trump.
In a video on social media, MacFarlane said he would be the chief Washington correspondent for MeidasTouch, and will also anchor a daily program called Scott MacFarlane Reports.

“I’m not an opinionist, not an editorialist,” MacFarlane said in a message he posted on X. “I’m far from a politician. I’m an enterprise reporter. Have been for a quarter century. What I’ll do is bring this enterprise reporting to all the components of the MeidasTouch network, all the contributors of the MeidasTouch Network.”
“It’s important when we underscore how significant this moment is, this moment of unique political toxicity and unique political danger. MeidasTouch and I have long shared this same philosophy — you don’t platform lies. You don’t platform conspiracy theories. And you don’t allow for the whitewashing of history,” he added.
In a note on LinkedIn, in which MacFarlane announced his departure from CBS, MacFarlane said it was his decision to leave CBS, and added that “I look forward to some independence and finding new spaces to share my work in line with my personal goals.” His departure came as editor-in-chief Bari Weiss reshapes the network after the Paramount Skydance merger. As part of that, CBS laid off about six percent of staff Friday.
