The cast for the sequel to the 2005 holiday classic The Family Stone has been unveiled, with much of the original cast set to return.
Titled The Families Stone, the follow-up will be set 20 years after the events of the original film. The returning cast includes Claire Danes as Julie Morton, Rachel McAdams as Amy Stone, Dermot Mulroney as Everett Stone, Craig T. Nelson as Kelly Stone, Sarah Jessica Parker as Meredith Morton, Luke Wilson as Ben Stone, Tyrone Giordano as Thad Stone, Elizabeth Reaser as Susannah Stone, Paul Schneider as Brad Stevenson and Brian White as Patrick Thomas.

Thomas Bezucha, who wrote and directed the original film, will return to write and direct the sequel.
The Family Stone followed Everett (Mulroney), the eldest son of the Stone family, as he brought his uptight girlfriend, Meredith (Parker), home to meet his parents — played by Diane Keaton and Nelson — and siblings — played by Wilson, McAdams, Giordano and Reaser — for Christmas. Everett planned to propose to Meredith, but after she became overwhelmed by the family’s hostile reception, she asked her sister, Julie (Danes), to join her for support, setting off a complicated and messy holiday visit.
The film went on to gross $92.9 million worldwide. While reviews were mixed upon its release, The Family Stone has since become a cult favorite. Parker also earned a Golden Globe nomination for best actress in a motion picture — comedy or musical for her performance.

Bezucha first revealed that he was working on a sequel a month after Keaton died in October 2025 at age 79. At the time, Bezucha told CNN that he had already been working on the script when he learned of her death.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight in July, Wilson opened up about his reaction to reading the script and how the sequel will honor Keaton. The Oscar winner’s character, Sybil Stone, dies of a terminal illness at the end of the original movie.
“Tom Bezucha is a great writer and a great director, and I read the script, and it’s really funny, and it’s so nice that everybody wants to work together again,” he said. “After the death of Diane Keaton, it’ll be even more meaningful because she was so great to be around on the first one.”
