Tom Cruise and Anne Hathaway Paramount Tom Cruise has officially announced the sequel to Days of Thunder, with Anne Hathaway joining the cast for the follow-up to the 1990 racing film.
The stars made the announcement Saturday at an empty Daytona International Speedway — home of the Daytona 500 — in front of a scuffed-up, lime green NASCAR touting a Summer 2028 release.

While the film was rumored to be fast-tracked in recent months, shooting won’t happen right away: “I’m gonna have this baby, then we’re gonna make this movie,” the pregnant Hathaway quipped in the announcement video.
Paramount added in a synopsis, “Tom Cruise will return as NASCAR driver Cole Trickle and will be joined by Anne Hathaway who is set to play a team owner and engineer in the upcoming follow-up to the groundbreaking 1990 film that revolutionized cinema. Cruise will star and produce alongside Jerry Bruckheimer and Tommy Harper. Jonathan Levine is set to direct from a script by Will Staples.”
