President Trump on Saturday morning slammed “fools” who criticized the terms of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the U.S. and Iran after several lawmakers and former President Obama spoke out against the deal.
“Radical Left fools and Dumocrats realize how well we have done in our War against Iran, with their Country being completely defeated militarily,” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.
He touted the success of the U.S. military and accused Obama of being a “weak and ineffective leader” that empowered Tehran through what the president described as financial concessions during his tenure.
“Obuma just kept giving them $Billions in cash, and never used our then depleted military for what should have been done to reign in the World’s number one sponsor of terror, Iran,” he wrote.
Trump also took a swipe at former President Biden, who he said failed to command respect from Iran alongside Obama.
“They had ZERO respect for him,” he wrote of Obama, adding: “They thought he was, like Sleepy Joe Biden, a weak and ineffective leader, and on this they were 100% correct.”
“Iran got away with ‘murder’ for 47 years, until I came along. Then it all changed. AMERICA IS BACK!!!”
Trump’s comments come in light of criticism Obama leveled during an interview that aired on Friday, where he argued that the U.S. may be “worse off” than it was before the Iran war began.
“We’ve now fought a war, spent billions and billions of dollars, put an enormous strain on our military, a lot of people have died and it feels like we are back where we were before we started the war, except maybe a little worse off,” he said during the interview.
The former president also defended the nuclear agreement negotiated during his time in office, which Trump pulled out of in 2018 during his first term. Obama argued that the decision to pull out caused “Iran to develop more nuclear capacity,” though he said he hoped the new deal would hold.
Several points of the 60-day ceasefire MOU signed on Wednesday angered multiple GOP lawmakers, who voiced their skepticism over the cost of the agreement, that it would lift oil sanctions on Iran and that it would provide the Middle East country with potential access to a $300 billion reconstruction fund.
“History teaches that giving billions of dollars to theocratic lunatics who want to murder us is not a good idea. I think the president is receiving some very poor advice on this deal,” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said.
