President Trump in a late night post praised Saturday’s fireworks show in Washington, D.C., describing the explosive display across the night sky as the “best” ever.
“Best fireworks show, EVER,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post moments after he addressed the nation for Independence Day.
Trump officials said it was the largest fireworks show in U.S. history, with more than 850,000 pyrotechnics being set off in the span of approximately 40 minutes from sites around the National Mall.
The show was set to launch more than 80 times the typical amount of pyrotechnics used in the district for the Fourth of July. The Guinness World Record for fireworks was set during a 2016 New Year’s celebration in the Philippines, which featured 810,754 pyrotechnics and lasted an hour in the pouring rain.
The fifth-generation, family-owned company Pyrotecnico was in charge of the show and stationed eight barges on the Potomac River, according to CBS.
The large-scale fireworks show celebrated America’s 250th anniversary of independence and also coincided with a thunderstorm in the nation’s capital.
A severe thunderstorm warning resulted in an evacuation of the Great American State Fair on the National Mall, causing chaos in the streets of D.C. Guests were later allowed back in, and packed crowds returned as Trump spoke and as the fireworks show began.
