Maryland Gov. Wes Moore (D) on Sunday said there “is something wrong” with President Trump making $1 billion in cryptocurrency.

“I do have an issue with some of the ways that we’ve now seen how we deal with cryptocurrency,” Moore said on “Fox News Sunday” with host Shannon Bream. “The President of the United States has made more money on crypto than crypto companies in the past year.”

“Like, there is something fundamentally wrong that has to be fixed with both the executive and the legislative branch when it comes to blame,” Moore added.

The president’s personal financial disclosures released on Tuesday revealed that he raked in over $500 million from World Liberty Financial, which he co-founded with his sons Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr. They launched the venture in fall 2024 as the then-former president embraced the crypto industry as part of his third presidential campaign.

The president told CNBC on Thursday that the U.S. needs to lead the industry in an effort to offset China.

“The way I view crypto is a little differently: We have to be at the top,” he said. “Like for instance AI. We’re leading substantially in AI over China and everybody else.”

Trump also told CNBC there was “nothing illegal” about these massive profits, as critics claim that it shows a conflict of interest and accuse the president and his family of profiting off his presidency.

“I do have very real issues with some of the decisions that have been made when it comes to pardons where we watch people that the president’s pardoned that have turned around and invested in his children’s businesses,” Moore said, referring to Binance founder Changpeng Zhao.

Trump pardoned Zhao last year after he previously pleaded guilty to money-laundering charges. Binance has had dealings with the Trumps’ crypto venture. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Zhao “was prosecuted by the Biden Administration in their war on cryptocurrency.”

The president shortly after said he knows “nothing” about Zhao.

“I said, ‘Eh, it may look bad if I do it. I have to do the right thing,'” Trump told CBS News’s Norah O’Donnell. “I don’t know the man at all. I don’t think I ever met him. Maybe I did. Or, you know, somebody shook my hand or something. But I don’t think I ever met him.”

The corruption allegations coming from Democratic lawmakers largely center on a $2 billion transaction between the Emirati investment firm MGX and Binance early last year. The transaction was conducted using a new stablecoin from World Liberty Financial.
