Ten years after being abruptly shuttered, the Dubai International Film Festival is being revived with a new edition set to kick off on Dec. 8, 2027.

The announcement — which was reported by local media and confirmed by Dubai sources — was made on Thursday by Mona Ghanem Al Marri, vice chairperson and managing director of the Dubai Media Council, during the Arab Media Summit.

Al Marri specified in a speech that the fest’s new format will focus on Arab cinema and intends to boost Dubai’s role as a film and TV production hub. She described the relaunch as a new chapter in the fest’s journey, which began in 2004 and led it to become the top film event in the Middle East. The festival was shuttered in 2018, reportedly to divert government funds to the Dubai expo.
