A U.S. Marine Corps F-35 stealth fighter jet crashed at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego, Calif., on Friday.
Emergency crews are responding to the scene in what Marine officials said was an F-35 “aircraft mishap,” according to Fox 5. It is unclear what caused the crash.
Marine Corps Air Station Miramar is a Marine Corps installation that is home to the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing.
The installation is located around 14 miles north of downtown San Diego.
The F-35B Lightning II is a fifth-generation stealth fighter aircraft equipped with advanced sensors that can take off from amphibious ships, expeditionary airfields and other platforms with limited runway space.
