The U.S. pulled back on its daily strikes on Iran over the weekend to both give more time for negotiations and conserve munitions.

President Trump is “giving it a little bit of room,” Mike Waltz, United Nations ambassador, said Sunday. Reports also bubbled up over the weekend that the U.S. campaign in the Strait of Hormuz has hit its limit and that an all-out war threatens depleted stockpiles of missile interceptors.

Senate Republicans are warning that confidence on Capitol Hill in Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s leadership is waning as the war in Iran drags on without an end in sight.

Some Senate Republicans are also calling for the August recess to be axed in favor of debating and passing the SAVE America Act. Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) is leading the charge for the schedule change. When the Senate returns later Monday, it is set to vote on the nomination of Jay Clayton to be director of national intelligence.

On Monday, Trump will be in Oakland County, Mich., visiting the General Motors Milford Proving Ground, where he will tout manufacturing and give remarks.

Michigan’s Democratic Senate candidates, Rep. Haley Stevens and Abdul El-Sayed, will debate at 8:30 p.m. Monday. The event comes a little more than a week out from the Michigan primaries on Aug. 4, where the winner will face off against former GOP Rep. Mike Rogers.
