'The One About Matthew Perry' Courtesy of Netflix Matthew Perry may have died at age 54, but based on the love shown in the trailer for the Netflix docuseries The One About Matthew Perry, the Friends star lived a pretty full life.
The One About Matthew Perry is directed by Mary Robertson (Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV) and marks “the first in-depth, definitive documentary about the beloved Friends star, told by some of the people who knew him best,” according to Maxine Productions. (Robertson’s Maxine Productions is a part of Sony Pictures Television.)
“Told through intimate testimonies from close family and friends, this documentary event reveals the real Matthew Perry — generous, funny, vulnerable, larger than life — and the battles he fought to become the man behind the icon,” the logline reads. “A raw record of a life lived in full, and the honesty that became his greatest legacy.”

The One About Matthew Perry, a three-part series, includes interviews with Perry’s sister Mia Perry Bowick as well as Matthew’s closest friends.
“It’s taken time for me to feel ready to share these memories and what it was like to love Matthew through all the complexity of his life — to see him as a whole person, not just as Chandler, and not just as someone who struggled with addiction,” Bowick said in a statement accompanying the docuseries’ announcement. “As his sister, he shaped who I am today, the person I strive to be and the work to which I’ve devoted my life. Matthew had a beautiful heart and a generous spirit, and even in his darkest moments, he could still make you laugh and feel loved. I hope this series gives everyone who loved him, whether personally or from afar, a deeper appreciation for who he truly was and the legacy he leaves behind.”
Perry, who struggled with drugs and alcohol for much of his life, died in 2023 after taking too much ketamine and drowning in his hot tub.
Robertson executive produces the series along with Lisa Kalikow, Eli Holzman and Aaron Saidman. Lora Moftah is co-executive producer and Jessica Call is producer. The One About Matthew Perry will release in full on Netflix on Oct. 27.
