HBO “Rooster” achieved HBO‘s most-watched debut season for a comedy series in more than 15 years, according to Warner Bros. Discovery. The only HBO comedies to outperform “Rooster” in their first seasons were “Hung” in 2009 and “Sex and the City” in 1998.
The Steve Carell-led project concluded its first season on May 10. The finale reached 2.2 million viewers in its first three days, and the series is averaging 6.5 million viewers to date across all 10 episodes, beginning with the series premiere, which was released on March 8. That average surpasses the average viewership for any comedy HBO has produced in the last decade and a half, including banner series like “Enlightened,” “Girls,” “Veep,” “Silicon Valley” and “Insecure.”
