Snoop Dogg Amy Sussman/Getty Images CBS and MTV said Thursday that rapper Snoop Dogg will host the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards.
Snoop Dogg is no stranger to the VMAs. He’s been nominated for 13 awards over his career, with three wins. He also has performed during the show, including making his debut in 1994. He also closed the 1999 show with Dr. Dre and Eminem and took part in a tribute to the Notorious B.I.G. in 2005. He took the stage again with Enimen in 2022 for a performance inspired by the world of the Otherside metaverse.
“MTV and the VMAs have been part of my story since the beginning,” said Snoop Dogg. “Some of the biggest moments of my career happened on that stage and on MTV — they gave hip hop a place to be loud, fearless and seen by the whole world. So to come back now and host the VMAs, all these years later, that’s a full-circle moment for me.”

He added that he also was looking forward to reunited with VMAs producer and former MTV chief Van Toffler.
“Doing it with my brother Van Toffler makes it even more special,” he said. “Van was there during those early MTV days when we were changing the culture in real time, and we’ve got a whole lot of history together. Now we get to make some new history. The VMAs have always been about those moments you don’t forget – and trust me, we’re gonna give y’all a few more. See you at the VMAs.”
The news comes a day after producers said Nirvana will receive this year’s Video Vanguard Award.
The 2026 VMAs, which are taking place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, will air Sept. 27 (7:30-9:30 p.m. ET/4:30-6:30 p.m. PT) on CBS and MTV and stream on Paramount+ (Premium) in the U.S. It also will be available globally the next day on Paramount+ and MTV.
This marks the first time the show has taken place on the West Coast since 2017.
Performers, presenters and special guests will be revealed in the coming weeks.
