Tom Morello’s Power to the People Festival: Springsteen, Dave Matthews, Foo Fighters and More Rock for Democracy

Jack Black made joyful noise with a band that included Morello’s son, Roman Morello, on lead guitar.

Chris Barker brings his bass skills — and some leaps — to the Last Internationale’s live show.

Dave Matthews played a short but impassioned solo acoustic set that included a cover of Marvin Gaye’s “Mercy Mercy Me (The Ecology).”

An attendee wore his politics on his denim vest, with messages reading “F-CK ICE” and “Make Nazis Afraid Again,” along with a large Palestinian flag.

At the end of the night, all the artists gathered for a closing jam led by Bruce Springsteen, joining their voices on Neil Young’s timeless “Rockin’ in the Free World.”

The Neighborhood Kids, whom Morello recently called “my new favorite band.”

Singer-rapper Grandson onstage. His shirt, which might be just a tad ironic, reads: “Eat tainted meat, breathe poison air, drink nasty water, help only yourself: Vote Republican.”

The Linda Lindas bring their raucuous girl power to the festival.

Power to the People featured an activation where the crowd could engage with nonprofits like the ACLU, Farm Aid, the National Domestic Workers Alliance, and Oxfam.

Drummer Matt Cameron and guitarist Mike McCready spent many years together as bandmates in Pearl Jam. Cameron left that band last year, but the two rock lifers reunited for Sons of Soundgarden — a tribute to Cameron’s other band that also features vocals from the Pretty Reckless’ Taylor Momsen.

The Neighborhood Kids were all smiles as they sported their button-filled vests.

Ken Casey of Dropkick Murphys connects with the Maryland audience.

Dave Grohl, Bruce Springsteen, and Tom Morello rocked out during the closing set.

Cypress Hill delivered their SoCal rap classics for a rousing set.

Nathaniel Rateliff sang his heart out during an afternoon set.

Artist and activist Shepard Fairey delivered a DJ set at the festival. He also designed the poster art for the event.

Delila Paz of the Last Internationale followed the Neighborhood Kids with a high-energy performance that set the stage for the rest of the festival.

Taylor Momsen and Sons of Soundgarden paid tribute to the late Chris Cornell with a set that included “Loud Love,” “Outshined,” and “Spoonman.”

Morello leads the all-star finale, showing what peace, love, and political action can achieve.
