Dr. Anthony Fauci, a face of the government’s pandemic response, invoked his Fifth Amendment right to protect himself from self-incrimination in testimony before the Senate Homeland Security panel and a critical Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) on COVID-19’s origins.

The former chief White House medical adviser and longtime director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases appeared days after Paul (R-Ky.) released over 1,000 pages of Fauci’s private diary entries from the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. Paul posits the writings prove Fauci discussed the origins of the virus differently in public than he did in private.

The conflict with Iran, in a pause for several days, pushed back into attacks on Tuesday as Iran launched surprise strikes on U.S. targets, and American forces struck back. As the war hits its five-month mark, the Pentagon and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth are drawing scrutiny over its increasing opacity about the mounting casualty toll.

The Federal Reserve will announce its latest interest rate decision at 2 p.m. EDT, the second swing at rates for new Fed Chair Kevin Warsh as he swims against the tide of the Iran conflict.

President Trump will greet the Montana State University football team on Wednesday morning and will make an afternoon announcement with Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy at 3 p.m. EDT.
